Passing the Torch
This was my first video on YouTube 3 years ago. Isn’t that kid cute! He just couldn’t remember where to end the song so he kept going…even changed keys!
I had this interesting conversation in the comments section on this video (my comments are in bold)
I will address this subject more in upcoming posts, but I wanted to get your thoughts. Leave a comment below and tell me how would you have responded to this individual?

I truly believe in teaching children ‘truths’. My son who is now twenty will tell you that I taught him too much. The reason he states this is because it has left him with nothing to explore on his own. He feels that because I told him the truths on life from the beginning that he is an outsider to the rest of the world. You can explore his readings at zanderravenclaw on deviant art.

I find these responsive very offensive. God said teach the little ones? A child left to his own will go the way of the mass? Teaching the child to say grace at a meal or “Lay me down to sleep”, is part of his education of life. I believe that when the child is age of accountablity, he will make the choice to stay with his teaching or go another way. If the parent is following the teachings of Christ he is doint the correct thing.
I would like to ask these people if their family prayed together or read the bible together. You have done a great job and your road to travel is laid, good luck.

First, everyone teaches their children what they believe, whether they believe in God or not.
Second, I think it’s interesting that a year went by, you didn’t respond, and the person came back to comment again. Maybe God is working in her/his heart.
But to answer your question, I wouldn’t respond to this individual anymore. You accurately and correctly expressed the truth. If s/he just wants to argue and ridicule, it would probably be unproductive. Hopefully the Holy Spirit is using the video and your original comment to move and stir this person to faith in Jesus.

I think I would reply, if for no other reason than to try and help this individual see the error in his own thinking–which is postmodern to the umpteenth degree.
A couple times he makes comments regarding letting him “decide what is true” for himself. Here’s the problem. All truth is true irregardless of what we think about it. The principles of mathematics, science, and even history for that matter, are true even if we never learn them or don’t believe in them. What we believe has nothing to do with whether or not it is true. 2 x 2=4 is true no matter what I think the answer is.
Jesus is either God or he isn’t. Our beliefs don’t make it any more true or less true. The real question is, do we have solid evidence for our belief, but that is whole different conversation. We must first have the belief that absolute truth does exist.
